Gilbert Family Monthly

Welcome to the April edition of the Gilbert Family Monthly. We are in to the penultimate month of the season in the northern hemisphere, with domestic and European competitions hotting up. It’s been as busy as ever at Gilbert HQ, with lots of deals being finalised and new content produced daily. A selection of all that is detailed below.

Here’s to another great month

Gilbert and LNR renew deal

Fantastic news from Laurent in France – Gilbert will be the official ball of LNR Play-offs (Top 14 and Pro D2 ) for at least the next three seasons. French club rugby has attracted the megastars of the game over the last decade, and it has been fantastic to see the likes of Dan Carter and Ma’a Nonu using a Gilbert ball every week.

HSBC World Rugby 7s

April is a big month in the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series. Lasr weekend we had the world famous Hong Kong 7s – possibly the best know tournament on the 7s calendar. This week the men head off to Singapore, where Gilbert will be represented on Instagram by Rajpal Kuckreja.

The next women’s leg also takes place in April with the competition heading to Kitakyushu, Japan. New Zealand currently lead the way with Australia close behind.

The men’s tournament in Hong Kong also hosted the qualifying tournament for next year’s World Rugby Sevens Series.

Product Videos

We have now produced three product videos showcasing the standout features from the Gilbert range. They have been produced internally in Robertsbridge by multimedia designer Matt Hibbit. We are sure you’ll agree these are excellent pieces, and can be downloaded from the Dropbox folder. Look out for lots more of these videos as the new range launches in May. If you would like any of these videos in a specific size for your channels/market then please let us know.

EPCR announces Final venues for 2018 and 2019 tournaments

Two big marketing opportunities presented themselves this week as EPCR announced that Bilbao and Newcastle will host the 2018 and 2019 European Finals. The Challenge Cup and Champions Cup Finals are played over consecutive nights in May, and have provided big boosts to the host cities in the past. Bilbao in particular will be an intriguing choice, giving us the chance raise awareness of the game in a relatively new market.

Big month of schools rugby for Gilbert

March is always a big month for schools rugby in the UK, with the famous HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s taking place in London. The best schools in the country descend for a five day tournament at all senior age groups. Lots of Gilbert schools took part, and it was Woodhouse Grove School that went furthest, winning their competition.

Meanwhile, the Natwest Schools Cup came to a thrilling finale at Twickenham with four games in one day – three of which featured Gilbert schools. Trent College (pictured) came out on top in a Gilbert derby against Royal Latin School, while Warwick were the U18 Cup winners after a crushing Final victory.

We’ll be using these successes heavily in our marketing for teamwear – if you need any teamwear materials let us know and we’ll do our best to supply them.
